I just finished my asterisk and rails integration talk. I didn’t get much sleep last night and was preparing the slides until a few minutes before it started. As a result i was afraid that it was going to run over, then went to quickly, and finished early. Also i don’t think i made it clear to folks the how it worked on a lot of levels. And the slides were really hard to read because the text was not clear. Ugh. Oh well.
Here’s a pdf of the presentation, i think it lost the audio files which played in the keynote version.

The fonts in the code are a bit blurry, but having seen dialplans, that’s probably no bad thing
Thanks for this – asterisk is one of the big todos on my List, and being able to sidestep their horrible dialplan langugage is a Big Deal.

Interesting! Can you send faxes with Asterisk? That would be quite useful for a project of mine, and if I can do it in Rails, then doubleplusgood.

Yes, you can send faxes, but it’s tricky over voip, it works better to send faxes when you have a hardware card in and are using a traditional phone system. Modems and Fax traffic don’t like being sent over voip.

Hi, I came to your talk and I enjoyed it. I didn’t really know much about Asterisk beforehand so you have inspired me by showing some of the possibilities. Thanks!

You went a little fast, but I thoroughly enjoyed your talk.
