Chumby Chumby

Last night i saw Bunny and the hardware hackers throwing around these little soft balls with screens on one side. Turns out they have built this little open source media client. It’s got wifi, a small screen, touch screen, speakers, and a flash 7 player. It’s a net enabled media viewer / clock. They were giving a few out to foo campers, and i got one. It’s SOOO COOL. It’s the first actual example of a real net enabled media device. You know like in the movies. And it’s open source hardware and software, with exception of the flash player. You can squeeze it for user input. There’s a flickr app so you can have it show your photos, google news, calendar, etc… And it can be scheduled to start as a alarm.

It’s got a really nice integration with the net, you use a website to choose what apps to install. Very very very cool. It’s also the kind of thing which an only be done open source because it’s drm free and reaches out to the net.
