Free Alaa and Other Egyptian Activists

I met Alaa and Manal in Uganda at Africa Source II. They were a couple of inspiring activists who are net savvy and fun to hang out with. Today i discovered that Alaa has been imprisoned with many other activists. He needs our help.

Alaa Abd El-Fateh is an egyptian blogger , free software developer, and human rights activist with Kifaya. He maintains Egyptian Blogs the aggregator of egyptian blogs. He’s being held with several dozen other pro-democracy and human rights activists in Cairo. There is a campaign among bloggers to help free them. Alaa has been able to slip out notes to keep blogging from prison.

There’s a petition for people who like that kind of thing demanding Alaa’s and other’s release. Otherwise you can just directly contact the egyptian embassy demanding their release.

  2. I don’t think you can call it “kidnapping” when it’s done by the Police.
