Take down request for a take down request!
A while back we got a takedown request from a PR firm / law office demanding that some press release from an anti-mining campaign in Costa Rica be removed on the account that it included a copyrighted memo from a canadian corporation, Glen Cairn Gold.
The article in question was taken offline because it was on a site which the indymedia network isn’t actively maintaining, global.indymedia.org.au.
Instead of just breaking the link, we followed the example of chiling effects we changed the content of the page with the takedown request.
The PR wonks at Glen Cairn Gold went away and just recently discovered that they don’t like the way we are complying with their request. They now have sent us a take down request for their take down request!
I’d say this is getting silly, but each time they do this they are trying to remove any reference to their client who may or may not have been doing nasty things in costa rica. I mean, personally do you trust the hard rock mining industry to self-regulate and follow good environmental practices?
Maybe in a few more months they will realize that this can go back and forth for ever but they’ll never win.
