Uruguayans Say Military is Unnecessary
In a recent poll in Uruguay %55 of the population said the Uruguayan Military was expensive and unnecessary. Now it’s unlikely that the leftist coalition government of Frente Amplio will follow the will of the people, but it’s nice to see that attitude. Costa rica in Central America does not have a military, but the do have a national guard type organization which serves domestic needs. Ironically, it is the Tupamaros, the former armed marxist urban guerrilla movement, which is now supporting the existing of the military.
